How does the environment affect one's decisions?
The environment affects one's decisions greatly. The calmer the environment, the easier it is to make a decision, while the more stressful an environment the harder it is to make a decision. Time is also a factor, in My Sister's Keeper, Anna is forced to make many decisions, the first is one we don't know about until the end of the book. Anna has to decide whether to listen to her sister's wish and stop being a donor and let her die, or do what she knows is best. I think that for Anna, this decision was one of the hardest. Depending on the time and the place, Anna kept changing her mind, she never knew if what she was doing was the right thing. When she was with her mom, who was urging her not to do it, she thought that it was the wrong decision and almost wanted to change her mind. While when she was with Campbell in his office or where she felt safe, it was easy for her to say that she wanted medical emancipation. Setting was big for Anna and helped her realize that she really didn't want to hurt anyone, she just wanted to do what her sister asked.
I can connect to this because sometimes, even if I know that it is wrong, I will do anything for my sister because I love her and we are always meant to be there for each other. I think that my sister influences my decisions more than my parents because she is closer to my age and I know that she will always be there to have my back. I also think that I am a person who lets her parents influence her a lot as well. While around one parent I may think one way, but around the other I may think something different just because of their views and outlook on life. I think this it what makes me, I am something in between. My decisions are based on my setting and the people in my surroundings, but because they are different, so am I, I'm a mix of them both.

ReplyDeleteI take your words and I want to ask you why you say them? sometimes do you not wonder could the opposite be true? how could you expand on this thought in connection to your novel?
YOu have some valid and good points about how setting does influence our decisions. Next time, try and bring in in some quotes to back up what you are saying. I like how you have brought in the connection and how youhave explained it. why do you gthink your decisions are based on your setting-and besides family what other factors. Something to think about.
