Journal #3 - My Sister's Keeper

What are the consequences of decisions?

I have now finished my novel, "My Sister's Keeper", and I have also completed the novel "The Last Song". This week in class we focus on relationships and how they affect peoples decisions. In "My Sister's Keeper," it is hard for Anna to open up to her parents because of their common bond with Kate, once removed from that environment and moved to the fire house Anna felt a stronger connection with her dad because he wanted Anna to be comfortable. This allowed Anna to open up to her father more easily and it also made him a bigger influence in her decision. In "The Last Song," as Ronnie slowly opens up to her dad, their bond grows and her trust in him also grows. By the end she is telling him everything and making him her biggest influence. When she doesn't know what to do about Will, her father is the first person she goes to for advice, and usually she bases her final decision on what her father says she should do. As relationships grow, trust grows, and the ability to influences also grows.

The consequences of peoples decisions are always different because the decisions are always different. In Anna's case, if she decides to not donate her kidney (which in the end she does because she dies) then Kate would die. While in "The Last Song" Ronnie's decision to stay and take care of her dad doesn't change the outcome of what will happen to him, no matter what he is going to pass away. The consequence of a decision is based on the decision its self and the person making it, each case is different therefore each consequence is different.
