The Cask of Amontillado

The setting is developed more and more through out the story, first we are told that the story is taking place during wine season to give us an idea of the general setting, then we start to get more details on the vault so that we can picture what is happening. He sets the tone of evil by talking about how he was insulted and how he wanted revenge. He also evenge because then the reader know that he is intending to commit a crime to get because words like avenged and threat. He uses foreshadowing when he says that he wants revenge for what Fortunato did to him. I think that it was ironic that Fortunato loved wine but Montresor used it against him so that he could get back at him. I think it sunk in how evil Montresor was at the end when he traps Fortunato in the catacombs.

  1. YOu have good points and you have mentioned examples from the story to help support what you are saying. \next time, bring in the quote as well. How true it is ironci that he uses what he loves to kill him. Also how he treats him as his friend although he is not his friend. There were also quite a bit of foreshadowing in thetgext when we look back at it closely. If youthink about the bones an the trowl. Waht an eerie place to take your friend. Also as discussed in class, Montressor did not see it as evil at all.
